Finance comp in NYC significantly more than anywhere else?

Even after adjusting for exchange rate and cost of living, there doesn’t seem to be any place that can compete with NYC in terms of compensation. Even London doesn’t really come close. Why is this still the case? Why can’t any other city compete in this regard? Is this going to change anytime soon?

not sure if this is true for London. I know a few people who have worked in both cities and even though pay is higher in nyc cost of living is somewhat higher too so it doesn’t feel like a lot more

i mean inflation has significantly increased in London, making it thought to live there i think. Having worked in nyc and london, and visited bith cities recently, I believe you might be better off doing finance in nyc, especially if you are in IB. only issue now is rent!
