Do you need a PhD to work at a place like DeepMind or Google Brain? Is it because only PhDs can do the research they do or is a lot of it for show? As in would like a Masters suffice?
I would say for the most part yes. They expect you to have done research already, published papers and they often require PhDs in their requirements in job postings. However, that doesn’t mean you have no chance - just that it would be very tough.
