Hey guys, a senior in college right now looking for new grad roles in data science. I’ve heard that many data scientists end up jumping to the PM career path after a while because it pays more. Is the future not as great if I were to stay in data science in terms of salary and promotion? I just don’t think I have the traits to succeed as a PM.
If you think the PM job is not for you (which it isn’t for many people), I wouldn’t worry about that now. Plus, I don’t think the forward trajectory is THAT much better for a PM anyway. Yes the pay may be higher but you also have to consider if spending your time managing people and teams is what you want to do everyday.
