Should I ask a recruiter for feedback even if it's a rejection?

it’s happened to me a few times in the past where i get rejected but have no clue why and i really want to ask about what happened. should i ask and how do should i go abut it?

most of the time they give me bs answers or company policy can’t give you that info :grimacing:

most of my experiences have been subpar but one time when I asked HR for feedback (nicely ofc) she told me that I just wasn’t as technical as the other candidates even though they really liked me

that’s what I hear a lot too, annoying af

how did you ask him/her?

usually I just send a really polite email thanking them for the opportunity but just wondering if they could give me any feedback as a candidate so I can improve in the future

I had 3 experiences with this. I sent the same exact email to the 3 to ask about feedback for missing interviews for a summer internship.

  1. Investment Bank : HR scheduled a call with me and she gave me quite generic feedback.
  2. Investment Bank : HR kept rescheduling the call until I gave up.
  3. Prop shop : an md trader wrote to me a very detailed email with the points I missed on and advice to improve on those.

So I defo encourage you to ask about feedback, while in some cases you might get something generic or not get a response, sometimes you can get very useful advice.

All the best
