Majoring in finance or stem for finance jobs

Recently I’ve noticed that there are a decent amount of people with stem (non-finance) majors getting jobs in finance. Is there a point to major in finance and take a bunch of finance classes if a person from stem can get the same jobs?

Finance is so broad it depends on what kind of finance jobs you’re referring to. I would say if your school has a specific finance major it will teach you some specialized knowledge that will prove useful in your job and especially if you don’t want to do a very technical/math-heavy major finance is a great choice of a major

If you’re looking at investment banking, sales & trading, and even some private equity / asset management / hedge fund roles, you don’t need a finance major. Anything you need on the job is learned during the job, either in training or at some point during your time there. Just study what you like to study - if it happens to be finance, that’s fine as well.
